He wants revenge.

Captain Colt finds treasure far more valuable than gold when he invades a Carolina settlement, demanding tribute. He finds the girl who slipped through his grasp two years ago and he relishes the opportunity to punish her for what she’s done…

Though the strain in his breeches makes it unclear which of them is suffering more from the reunion.

She wants justice.

Charlotte cannot fathom why Colt the Cruel would demand her as payment for not attacking their fledgling settlement. But probing the fathomless depths of her mind won’t help uncover the answer because Charlotte has no memory of her past. Submitting to Colt’s demand might help her learn how she washed ashore without a stitch of clothing that fateful day. And while she’s aboard the ship, Charlotte vows to use her time as Colt’s captive to bring down his band of pirates from the inside…

Though the persistent ache between her legs whenever the captain appears distracts her from the righteous cause.

The pirate and the prisoner.

Each wants to protect a vulnerable heart… and a dark secret.

Please be advised: Paid to the Pirate is a Dark Romance and a Historical Fantasy. Please check the Content Expectations before reading.

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is a dark romance and it is not for the sensitive readers! The dynamic between these two is hateful and... freaking delicious. Until they realize and admit their true feelings of course. These characters are tormented with a fair amount of trauma in their pasts. Expect rough BDSM, references to past r*pe, lots of tense misunderstandings, and swashbuckling SPICE.

Sea Of Roses by Opal Reyne

Captain Alister Paine has always had his good eye set on treasure, murder, and sinking ships. His fame as a ruthless, blood-thirsty pirate has spread across the Seven Seas. The Howling Death, his precious warship, is the deadliest ship on the ocean waters, striking fear into the hearts of all those who see it. So when a deceitful yet sensual woman steals his bloody ship from him, he wants nothing but revenge!

AND REVENGE CAN COME IN MANY FORMS...

His anger holds no bounds. He wants to punish her, but there is something about Rosetta Silver that has Alister drowning beneath the waves of his carnal desires. Despite her tricky nature, he foolishly ends up wanting her.

SHE’S LIKE THE SEA, AND LIKE THE UNTAMABLE SEA, HE WANTS TO DOMINATE HER.

However, Rosetta isn’t what she seems, and Alister must decide if his desire for this captivating woman is strong enough to fight against her dark secrets.

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Enjoyed the characters. Enjoyed the tension. Enjoyed the ships, action, and piratey adventure and banter. It was a fun and spicy read with wonderfully feisty characters. The only reason for the deducted star is because (at least at the time of reading) there were a LOT of distracting grammatical errors. If you're not easily swayed by that kind of thing, I would absolutely recommend this action-packed read!

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

A fun, spicy, fantastical pirate adventure. This book had a classic feel to it that I greatly enjoyed.

Rum and women are plentiful, but his world is changing rapidly now that his crew is back together searching for the Holy Grail to break their curse. But the quest leads him to a historian with raven hair and a wicked smile. She holds all the answers, but she could also spell death for them all.

Dr. Charlotte Sinclair works for the Maritime Museum in Savannah, an expert on ancient pirate wrecks. The search for the Grail opens some dark secrets better left hidden, and Charlotte's life might depend on one Pirate's Passion...

If you want immortal pirates in the modern world, this is the book to read. Charlotte is living her dream when she finds out the men of her favorite pirate rock band are real pirates in search of the holy grail. Hello, Indiana Jones pirates?

Selling one’s daughter isn’t as rare as you’d think. But to the Captain of a pirate ship? It’s the best thing that has ever happened to a sheltered young lady who quickly discovers she has a taste for adventure.

Captain Samuels:

We were pirates. Er, traders. Yet even we were repulsed by women being sold like chattel.

But I couldn’t stand by while her father sold her, treating her as if she were worthless.

She was a sweet, hard working girl.

Her delicate blue eyes called to me even more than the sea itself.

The only thing I wanted now was to keep her safe. In my arms. In my bed.

My biggest fear was that I might hurt the tiny lass. I could never let that happen.

Flora:

A complete stranger asked me what I wanted. I’d never been asked that question before.

The Captain was the first man to ask me to speak my mind.

I made my choice – to sail away for a life of adventure rather than stay under my father’s thumb.

The world was bigger out on the open sea.

The colors were brighter.

The feelings were… Strangely deep and powerful.

I just couldn’t tell if the Captain felt the same.

He was so kind to me, treating me as if I were precious.

Every time he touched me, I wanted to feel like I was his to enjoy.

As my life finally became my own, I began to make my own rules.

I'd learn to speak up for what I need.

My Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

If you want pirates, but you don't want the rough intensity that most pirate romance books are, this is perfect for you! This is a sweet romance with a virgin woman and a pirate who is trying to reform and he is the sweetest cinnamon roll on the seas. (The author notes that they are a contemporary romance author and this is a quite a change for them so expect cozy vibes... on a pirate ship❤️)

This book had all the makings of a classic, old-fashioned romance and can we just appreciate the very accurate cover? This was a swoon-worthy story that I am so glad I took a chance on.

THE BANTER. If nothing else, read this book for the banter. A woman who gets kidnapped... kind of on accident? A pirate who has the hots for her but sometimes can't stand her? Yes, please.

Aeris has been a captive most of her life. She's a siren without a skrill and the rugged, handsome pirate who just freed her from her prison has been the only one to show her kindness, even if it was brief. When he finds out what she is, however, everything changes.

Now a captive on Nazario's ship, Aeris finds that there might be light in her dark world, even if its a dim flicker in the eyes of the pirate captain she rescued.

***This is a dark romantasy novella in the "Wicked Tides" universe and can be read alone. Although, for the sake of lore, it is beneficial to read book 1 first. Triggers Violence, past abuse, talk of slavery and trafficking, loss, thoughts of suicide, graphic sex, past SA of a minor, and cultist behavior***
